Poetry Inspired by W.B. Yeats + An Update

Aedh Wishes for the Cloths of Heaven

Had I the heavens’ embroidered cloths,
Enwrought with golden and silver light,
The blue and the dim and the dark cloths
Of night and light and the half light,
I would spread the cloths under your feet:
But I, being poor, have only my dreams;
I have spread my dreams under your feet;
Tread softly because you tread on my dreams.

เหยียบเบา ๆ เพราะคุณเหยียบย่ำความฝันของฉัน

The North Korean/South Korean Version (1983-2022)

If I had every material desire at my beck and call,

Full of options and social mobility,

What’s in the hearts of us all,

Rooted in hope and ability,

I kneel before you and lay them all amongst your feet;

But I, being poor, have only my dreams;

And, I have spread my dreams under your feet.

Please kindly tread softly, for you tread on my dreams,
